Routinery App Study (Ongoing)

This page will showcase an ongoing study of the app “Routinery”. This is a lifestyle app that walks the user through each step a preloaded or custom routine with a timer. I use this app every day before and after work to block out my free time and allow me to complete all of my daily tasks.

I was drawn to this app because of its simple, yet effective, user flow and layout. I will be conducting a design study of the app to familiarize myself with the intention behind these attractive characteristics.

Here is the user journey that one experiences when using the app to carry out a routine. First, the “Study Timer” routine is selected, an inhale/exhale animation is played, then the timer begins. After each step of the routine is completed and the final check mark icon is tapped, the routine will end.

What makes this app so appealing and user friendly?

The first step that I took was to reconstruct the app’s loading screen that utilizes its logo using Figma.

Next, is an analysis of the different sections of the app grouped into their general touch zones and the reach needed to access each touch zone. These elements seem to be logically organized by the designer based on the expected frequency that they would be used.

I then created a series of sketches, analyzing the components and their arrangement on 3 of the apps main screens where an action or “click” is required.

Using Figma, I created wireframes of each of the main screens. Using those, I created a prototype animation of navigating the through the app from launch to the use of a routine.

After finishing wireframes for each screen, I created a working prototype of the app to illustrate the navigation through each screen. A high attention to detail was needed here to ensure every page was structured and animated just like the real app.
