Visualization

This section showcases the different methods of visualization that I use to analyze a product.

Sketching

These are images of constructed sketches that I’ve created in my free time to analyze the proportions and design of existing boats. The image on the left is a Vanquish VQ50 Hardtop Yacht and the image on the right is a Viking 92’ Enclosed Bridge Sportfish Yacht.

Watercolors

These watercolor pieces were created to exercise the use of watercolors as a medium to visualize designs. The image on the top left was created with only black watercolors and was used to practice shading and gradients as a method to visualize 3d objects. The image on the right was a color study to practice with the mixing of two colors, Yellow and Purple to show a transition and movement between the two. The third and final image on the bottom left was an exercise to showcase a product (VQ58 Hardtop) again using only two colors which were blue and orange this time.

Computer Aided Design

A jig that I designed in Rhino for cutting rotating stock with a circular saw. It was drawn to be cut on a CNC Router.

My Luminary featured in the “My Work” section. This model helped me to visualize the joinery and get lengths of parts for construction.

During my design process I utilize multiple CAD programs to visualize my designs in 3D, work towards making a final prototype, and using the model to make renderings of my product. I have learned and continue to learn many different cad programs and you can see a few of my favorites in the images below including Rhino, Onshape, and Fusion 360.

A carpet sweeper that I designed using Onshape and also rendered this model.

Rendering

One of the final steps to presenting design is making photorealistic renderings of my product that I created in CAD. I’ve learned multiple different programs for rendering but the program I prefer is Keyshot.
